Wartime Loch Ewe

Throughout the Arctic Convoy campaign, Loch Ewe was a hive of activity. 3000 personnel were stationed here, and from the defensive anti-submarine nets and magnetic loop across the mouth of the loch to the command bunker in Poolewe, nowhere was unaffected, which must have come as quite a shock to the local crofting and fishing communities. All this activity has left numerous sites and buildings of significance arrayed around Loch Ewe, many of which are in a serious state of disrepair.

Part of our project is to catalogue and photograph these sites. Once documented they can be plotted on a virtual map, and this should give a unique insight into the scale of operations.
